  4. TITLE      LAN CONNECTION FOR PRINTERS IN NOVELL NETWARE ENVIRONMENT
  5.  
  6. ABSTRACT          The IBM LAN Connection for Printers and Plotters provides a
  7.            direct connection of parallel and EIA-232-C serial printers and
  8.            plotters to local area networks (LANs).  These new models support
  9.            Novell (1) NetWare (1) networks.  The IBM LAN Connection for Printers
  10.            and Plotters consists of a network printer adapter unit that attaches
  11.            to a LAN and a software utility that resides on the LAN print server.
  12.            The adapter unit has both a serial and a parallel port that can be
  13.            used simultaneously to support two printers or a printer and a
  14.            plotter.
  15.                   The software utility takes the print data normally sent to the
  16.            print server's parallel ports and redirects it to either the parallel
  17.            or serial port of the adapter.  The appropriate printer attached to
  18.            the adapter receives the data and prints it just as if the printer
  19.            were attached to the server's printer port.
  20.                   The IBM LAN Connection for Printers and Plotters software
  21.            utility supports remote printing in PSERVER or RPRINTER mode with
  22.            Novell NetWare 2.2 or 3.11 connected to either a Token-Ring (IEEE
  23.            802.5) or an Ethernet (IEEE 802.3 or Ethernet II) LAN.
  24.                   The IBM LAN Connection for Printers and Plotters operates
  25.            without noticeable degradation of printing performance and supports
  26.            the following data streams: IBM Personal Printer Data Stream (PPDS),
  27.            Hewlett-Packard Printer Control Language (HP PCL), IBM/HP Graphics
  28.            Library (GL), and Adobe PostScript (2).  A user-friendly interface
  29.            allows the user to easily configure and maintain one or more adapters
  30.            on the network.

  63.            printers and plotters connected to the IBM LAN Connection for
  64.            Printers and Plotters remote from the associated LAN print server.

  66.            The IBM LAN Connection for Printers and Plotters allows printers and
  67.            plotters to have location freedom.  Printers and plotters are not
  68.            required to be directly attached to the network printer server, but
  69.            can be located anywhere in the network.  Improved print-job
  70.            throughput may be realized because of faster communications between
  71.            the print server and printer.
